I look forward to working on it with you.

Re: New Wardrobe Additions: November

Leigh:

If you would like to do a guest post, it would be fine, BUT if you would prefer (I would) that I write a bit more of an introduction and perhaps "clarify" some spots for the reader that does not have the background on the clogs? Let me know what you think.

Re: New Wardrobe Additions: November

DianeBeth, thank you so much for this thoughtful comment. I think it should be a guest post! Now I want to go look at the various models and reread everything. I am ready for the next pair, which I think will be like the DaVincis but brown and maybe a higher heel. Not sure. Down the road I want some sort of sandal. I agree that the clogs without wood are not so good looking. I so appreciate your thoughts. Happy clogging! Leigh

Re: New Wardrobe Additions: November

Leigh:
Sorry about the delay in reply, but I really didn't realize what I was “getting myself into” when I made the offer! (I say that purely out of fun, but I've worn clogs for decades and realized that a “good” response to you would require a bit of meditation and some . . . well . . . SOME . . . detail!)

Here would be my list of top favorites (NOT in “order”, mind you):

1. The “Wright” (this is the “basketweave top” style)
2. The “Audubon” (the “laceup” style).
3. The “Mariah” (sandal)
4. The “Mary Jane” - these are my most recent acquisition (and current obsession)

Also, in general, the “Ideal” base is very nice (the one that has the thick polyurethane heel). For a while, Troentorp ONLY offered this, and as a “purist” I was at first disappointed (and I AM glad to see that they've returned to offering the original “all wood” base). But my opinion has changed: they are more expensive, but if you are walking any distance, the Ideal base is nice. They are still a “true” clog with a solid wood platform from heel to toe.

(Speaking of being a purist, I don't even really regard the all-rubber based things to be clogs and the same goes for the units that have a “flex” segment across the ball of the foot . . . this is NOT to knock anyone who likes these, but the Troentorp Ideal base retains the support of a true all-wood base while damping out the one arguable negative of clogs - the hard impact of the heel)

There is a word of “warning” on each of these styles:

1. Some Wrights have a bit of padding around the collar. You may or may NOT like this. It gives the rest of the foot a little “play” inside the clog and the movement can cause some rubbing. For me, this was notable at first but settled in and now I like the padded collar (all clogs take some wear to conform to the foot and I assume the padded collar does conform, too).

I see that Troentorp direct from Sweden has a mix of ones with padded collars and plain collars. I assume that the plain collar would fit more like the DaVinci. (This is just my personal experience, but I found the Rembrandt - which has a really big padding that sticks out past the normal back end of the upper - to be difficult to wear for the reason I just mentioned).

By the way, I see that they have the Wright with the Ideal base (plain collar, brown) on sale from Troentorp.

2. The way the toe is finished off on the Audubon (with the seams), it too might cause some rubbing on the toes. Personally, this was something I noticed at first, but it also disappeared with wear. Getting the lacing right is also a bit of an experimental process!

3. With the Mariah sandal, ditto “warning” with the “Wrights”. I think most of them have a plain collar (and probably would wear like a normal DaVinci), but there are some models out there with the padded collar. The collar looks to be about the same as that on some Wrights (not HUGE like the Rembrandt), so I would expect the same experience.

4. The rear strap on the Mary Jane does not sweep as far back as the upper of the fully covered clogs. At first, they didn't feel as secure on the foot as a standard clog. However, with some dialing in of the tightness of the strap and some wear, I also found this to go away. I've never had one go flying off my foot (a big myth with clogs . . . with a properly designed and fitted clog, you can play kick-ball without losing one!)

Hope I didn't drown you in information, but wanted to give you a PROPER response.

DianeBeth

Re: New Wardrobe Additions: November

I highly recommend the Da Vinci's. What I absolutely LOVE about you, your blog, and your clogs, is that you actually WEAR them and use them repeatedly. There are so many fashion blogs where, obviously, a FREE SAMPLE is solicited, worn once and featured (for the duration of a picture session) and then lumped in a closet (or sold on eBay or Heaven knows what). It makes everything they say about anything sound disingenuous.

By the way, please tell me, are they BLUE or BLACK? I cannot tell from the photos and don't recall from your text if you mentioned it!

Thanks for a truly wonderful blog!

DianeBeth

Re: #ClogLife

Thanks, Jon! Got my first pair, also black, when I was 16 and was touring with a youth orchestra through Scandinavia. They used the name Bastad back then. As long as you repair the soles before it wears through to the wood (on the standard soles, not sure if the cushier "ideal" sole can be repaired) and take good care of the leather they will last forever. The leather is the best you can find, as good as on my $375 hunting boots) They will take even take a real mirror shine if you want to put in the work, Wore them for thirty years, then had to get a new pair because my feet got bigger, I also have a pair of the closed back steel toe work clogs for wearing in my glass and metal studio, There is absolutely no way a nail is ever going to puncture these wooden soles.

Re: How to Style Clogs

Thank you Chris!

Re: How to Style Clogs

i love so much your clogs , very beautiful ,
I love the ankles apparent

Re: Let’s Get Fit: The Final Reveal

Thanks!

Re: How to Find Your Signature Scent

Thank you Joanna!
